Hey! I have to create a blog for one of my journalism classes. Of course I'm up in the wee hours of the morning trying to complete this assignment. Shame on me. Why do I procrastinate (that's another blog in itself) Well here it goes. Stories that sparked my interest.
Megachurch Pastor Steps Down After Affair
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- Pastor Bob Coy in Fort Lauderdale has resigned as senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale after confessing to cheating on his wife. He called it a "moral failing that disqualified him from continuing his leadership role at the church."
Here it is again another pastor or person in leadership steps down because of an affair. The question is...was it necessary? In February at a mentoring program we had a discussion about people resigning or being pulled from positions because of sexual immorality. Conclusion: God did not pull those He called from their position.
When God calls on people for certain duties He does not take that away from them. King David had moral failings but he was not removed from his leadership position. Yes God rendered consequences but He still forgave him and did not remove King David from his leadership position.
I do not think he should have resigned. Yes he was wrong. If God called him to lead then he should continue to lead.

Pastor tries atheism, loses job, gains $19,000
LOS ANGELES -- Ryan Bell of Los Angeles is going to give atheism a try for one year. That means no praying or going to church for this pastor.
Interesting. It will be proven that God is the answer no matter what you are going through. I am at the point in my life where I do not even want to imagine my life without God.
Within a week of making this decision Bell lost two jobs teaching at Christian schools. He has however received $19,000 from over 900 people. Atheist have been a huge support to Bell. Some are just happy that he his giving atheism a try.
I believe his journey is a intellectual journey and not a spiritual journey. It's interesting I found this story as I am trying to get closer to God and truly live for Him. So to me Bell is flirting with fire and this is a foothold for the devil.

Stop dressing so tacky for church
Okay now this article is right up my ally. People do not care anymore about their appearance. Also there seems to be a change over the generations when it comes to fashion.
I actually imagine what it was like to go to school or a sporting events in dresses. Actually dresses are my favorite clothing to wear so it probably wouldn't be a problem.
But back to church. Rev. John Debonville would like to preach a sermon "Stop dressing so tacky in the church." It has become "Sloppy Sabbath" Flip-flops, wrinkled clothes, baggy jeans are in the pews. Casual for church has gone too far. I understand everyone has their own taste.
I personally would not pants to church. Maybe one day but that day is not here. On the other hand I do not find it a big deal if I do not wear stockings. But we need to try our best to keep up our appearance. I have heard about "young folks" not taking pride in their appearance.
The article does mention the confusion on what is and isn't appropriate for church based on the Bible. However people do agree church is not the only place people display their lack of care for their appearances. You are bound to see someone in their pajamas, slippers or wearing a scarf on their head at the gas station or grocery store.
I also think denomination or location is a factor. Going to a Baptist or AME church that has been around for 50+ years and everyone is family going to church is a fashion show. When I go to these younger non-denominational churches with a bigger collegiate crowds every Sunday is "Casual Friday"
I agree with Debonville that this is getting out of hand. I felt disappointed not seeing Easter Best on Easter. That was my one guarantee to see a Sunday Best outfit.

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Florida State University School track team was involved in a bus accident early Friday morning on April 18. The bus was hit by a drunk driver. Unfortunately the bus driver William R. Fowler II, 65, died.
This sparked my interest because my cousin was involved in the accident. He is one of two track coaches taken to the hospital. Two students were taken as well.
The lives of several families are badly effected because of this accident. This only not effects the family of the deceased but the students are effected as well. Some may have never experienced a death before.
It is important to have a designated driver. The young lady who was drunk driving is only 25 years old. Now she risks spending a good amount of her life in jail. Her family is also badly effected by this accident. I'm sure it was hard for her parents to hear the situation.
We have to remember that what we do effects other people. I'm sorry for all parties involved in the accident.

Boy released by kidnapper after singing gospel music
ATLANTA -- Gospel music saved nine-year-old Willie Myrick's life. He was kidnapped and sung "Every Praise" by Hezekiah Walker for three hours. The kidnapper was aggravated and let Myrick go.
Ironically I have wondered what I would do if I was ever kidnapped. And singing gospel did come across my mind. I can't even sing. So I think that will be a plus.
